Maintaining an up-to-date view of all the major asset categories on a global basis requires accessing a vast number of economic news sources and controlling large data sets. Our research process and macroeconomic models make frequent use of monthly (or in some cases, weekly) economic data.

In this post, we share some resources that can help make managing a global-macro investment process more efficient.

You can also take a look at our previous post on “Hedge Fund and Private Equity Resources” and our newly introduced Link Panel — a compendium of high-quality Web resources for the global-macro investor. (The Link Panel page is permananently available from the navigation menu in the left-hand column, under “Services / Links.”)

Bloomberg U.S. Economic Calendar
www.bloomberg.com/markets/ecalendar
Records economic data releases, central bank meetings and other potentially market-moving events, such as certain large-cap companies’ earnings releases.

CBS MarketWatch
http://cbs.marketwatch.com/news/economy/economic_calendar.asp
While this site focuses on exclusively on U.S. markets, we feel we should include it here as a useful calendar for upcoming economic releases (complete with consensus forecasts), conference calls, etc. A section entitled “Federal Reserve Policy Forecast” displays a calendar of scheduled FOMC meetings and consensus rate expectations.

DailyFX Calendar
www.dailyfx.com/calendar
Sites devoted to the foreign-exchange markets provide some of the best links to international data on the Web — even if you don’t touch forex itself (and it’s not for everyone, for structural and other reasons). This global calendar provides access to major economic releases in a user-friendly format.

The Dismal Scientist
www.economy.com/dismal
A “supersite” for global economic statistics and analysis. GDP consensus forecasts are available at www.economy.com/dismal/pro/data/outlook.asp?type=1.

GFT Calendar
www.gftforex.com/resources/calendar/calendar.asp
Global in scope.

UnderstandMarket.com/Newsler FX
www.understandmarket.com/index.php?categoryid=24
Global economic calendar.

WSJOnline
http://online.wsj.com/home/us
The “Economy” section of the Wall Street Journal’s Web site provides comprehensive coverage of major economic releases, with topical analyses.

WSJ Online International Calendar of Economic Events
http://online.wsj.com/mdc/public/page/2_3024-intlcal.html?mod=mdc_h_econhl
International economic events, presented in a no-nonsense text format and organized by day. ♦
